Sorry, to hear about your miscarriage Jackie. I think you need to talk to your doctor on what to do. I am in the same boat I've been trying to get pregnant myself and nothing is happening. I don't know what to do. I am thinking about surgery.

A quick survey of the prevailing market price of Viagra tablets will suggest that at this rate, only the elitist few will be afford a constant use of the little blue pills, an especially worrying trend.

del, thanks for your comments and questions. My fibriods are 5 cm, 4 cm and 3 cm. They are in the wall of the uterus. My doctor told me that I should try to get pregnant. I really do not want to have surgery because I am very anemic.

Hi Vane, I was like you last year. I am 37 so a little older than you. Never had a child. And I was so freaked out about the surgery I was a real mess. First time surgery ever for me also! I was ready to cry when I got to the admission at the hospital. But once I got prepped for the surgery it got better and then as the anesthesiologist gave me something to relax(?) everything was ok. I woke up and it was done. I didn't have to worry any more.

Now once you are done there will be pain. But you get meds and it will be ok. I think you will be ok not being in the greatest shape. I was in great shape but I don't think it helped me. I think it depends on how much rummaging they do in your uterus and that's how fast/slow you will recover. The more work, the more it will hurt. But after 6 weeks you will be ok again. Time will go slooooooooooow. But you will be back to normal! Trust me. And no more flooding and pain. And I don't think you will gain extra wght either. You will be busy recovering.

The muffin top is a bulge that we get from the surgery above the scar. But it also goes down w/ time and massaging. It's ok. Not pretty but ok.

Looking back to the surgery it really wasn't bad. And definitely worth it! I highly recommend having it done to get rid of those fibroids.

Im 32 yrs old and im scheduled for an AM on Feb 9.. I have 4 fibriods ,one measuring 8.2cm and the three others about the size of golf balls. As the time approaches im getting increasily nervous, im having second thought about the procedure (especially because I have no children and would really like to have children in the future). I also never had surgery before, so im not sure what to expect post-surgery, im especially concern with how much pain I'll be in. My last but not least concern is that I've put on a few pounds and after reading a couple comments , I dont think im in the best shape and im afraid this is going to hurt my recovery and afraid i'll gain even more after the surgery. And what's this about a "muffin top"???!!!! Can anyone whos had a recent AM or a similar concern or experience please respond and ease a little of my worries....I will gladly appreciate it...

hi kay, did u tell the doctor that you want to get pregnant?? Why dont u remove the fibroids if they r big? Do u know where they r in the uterus and how big exactly? my fibroid was 12cm and sitting in the uterus, blocking the entry. It was removed and i feel better now. We were trying to conceivetoo but it didnt happen. I think it was because ofthe fibroid which i later discovered.

I had a traditional myomectomy when i was 33 yrs old and it all went well, i had 6 fibroids removed 2 very large ones and 4 medium size ones. I'm 41 yrs old now and a fibroid grow again, about the size of a cantaloupe (I dont know the exact size i'm just guessing) or it's the size of someone with a 5 or even 6 month pregnancy. I never had any children but i'm hoping that at least I can have one now, I know I should've done something a year after my first myomectomy. I met this fertility doctor who uses the Da Vinci surgery (aka robotic surgery) and I thought he'll perform that to me to save my uterus, because if i'll have another traditional myomectory my uterus would look like swiss cheese. I'm suppose to have the surgery on the 29th of this month and this morning I talked to the doctor about his a part of the pre-op. He finally told me that he'll not be doing the Da Vinci surgery b/c my fibroids are too big, he'll have to do the traditional myomectomy. My question is with the traditional myomectomy and a big fibroid, is there anymore hope for me to get pregnant even by in vitro fertilization, even with a very slim chance.

Hi, I had an abdominal myomectomy 2 weeks ago tomorrow. 6 fibroids weighing 2 kg were removed. I seem to be healing well but the whole taking things easy thing is starting to wear thin. Aarrgghhh, if I try and do too much I end up in pain so at least that's the signal to slowdown.

To while away the time I have been surfing the net and reading sites like these with useful info. Anyway, I've started a blog about my 1st stay in hospital and to show how this op has affected me.

Take a look

Hi all,

I wanted to share my story as this site was a great help to me two years ago as I prepared for a myomectomy. I have a few suggestions of my own and I hope they work for you too:
1) select your doctor well, I had a gynecologist, obstetrician and fertility specialist all rolled into one. The reason being is that he was able to treat me and perform surgery with my future needs to have children in mind as i don't presently. I also asked how many he had done and the number of emergency hysterectomies, its just good to know and he/she should give you that information. A good bedside manner is also important.
2) make sure to get fit before: stop drinking alcohol 3 months before, start weight training especially your arms as you will need them!! Also stair climbing is good too!
3) Eat right! most of all stop eating deep fried food!!! i stopped about 2 months before surgery. My theory was that my arteries needed to be clear and blood flow to be fast and normal to heal better and fried food doesn't help in this regard. Fresh food with less dairy is a good start.
4)Have all your favorite food in the fridge and freezer ready, you wont be able to cook for 2 days at least. I baked my favorite banana bread and this was a treat with a cup of tea each day.
5) make sure you wont have to bend to get stuff by placing them at reachable height. I had all my daily things on tables and everywhere at waist height
6)Walk around the house as much as you can then venture out.
7) An overnight maxipad is handy for placing on top of your scar to avoid rubbing against your clothes..simple and works, the nurses gave it to me.
8) don't stress about the pouch or muffin top, i love mine and wouldn't trade it for the other.. unmentionable reason for the surgery.. i earned this muffin top!
9) keep a pillow at hand for laughs, coughs and most painful.. sneezing!! ouch
10)I had the surgery on a Friday morning by Sunday the attending physician on call said I was good to go but as he was not my doctor the nurses called my doctor who decided that i stay another night but I was feeling fine. Next day my doctor walks in and 5 mins later, presto, good to go.. get outta here... he later commented to his receptionist "can you believe she had major surgery 3 days ago?" this gave me a huge boost as i walked out of the hospital...
11) pray and have faith all will be okay.

Hi Tia - not sure about the gushing - but I am so happy you feel better and that all removed!
Had my open myo on 11/20/2009. I feel incredible! Like you my doc went in for 4 large fibroids - he knew that my uterus was 8 months - found 30 fibroids - so happy I got to keep my uterus.
You will loose weight - trust me - two days after my surgery I weighed the same - the hospital gave me a ton of fluids - plus I took 4 pints of blood - (1) of my own and (3) others.
Currently have dropped 10 lbs in 7 days. My doctor wanted to know how I was tying my shoes??
Good luck and I hope you feel better. Glad you had an experienced doc who did not freak out and remove your uterus.

Just got back today from surgery. Doc was shocked when she went in with laproscope on Monday. She expected a 12 week uterus, found a 28 week. My uterus was 850 grams(Normal one is 80) and many fibroids. 2 Very large. All in all she removed over 1600 grams of tumors. She said she didnt know how I was walking around.
My question: I weigh the same as I did on monday before surgery. Is this fluid? We had a problem monday night. Everytime I got up masssive amount of water/blood mixture gushed out of the right side. Doc came in about 2am and put more stitches. I probably lost about a gallon of fluid. Anyone give me some direction?
