Haven’t been around much recently. I had to take a step back for a little while. As it stands, my blog is not what I originally envisioned. I really had to change my perspective in order to continue.
So, what has changed?
Haven’t been around much recently. I had to take a step back for a little while. As it stands, my blog is not what I originally envisioned. I really had to change my perspective in order to continue.
So, what has changed?
Several members of my family have experienced the difficult decision of giving up a part of themselves to save themselves. For some, it involved an amputation resulting from diabetic neuropathy and one member of my family required radical surgery for breast cancer.
What does all of that mean in terms of this site?
Elton John’s birthday is right around the corner so I’ve been listening to his music recently. Yes, in addition to being a Prince fan, I’m also crazy about Sir Elton. Detecting my odd, non-conformist streak yet?
Anyway, “I’m Still Standing” is one of my favorite EJ songs. For those unfamiliar, here are a few of the lyrics:
Don’t you know I’m still standing better than I ever did
Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid
I’m still standing after all this time
Picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mindI’m still standing yeah yeah yeah
In the process of updating the site, I’ve come up with a working (in flux) Mission Statement that I will add to various pages. The blog requires one so that what I’m trying to accomplish here will be clearer.
Seem to have slowed down today. Still feeling a little under the weather but happy. I started reading Brian Greene’s The Elegant Universe a couple of days ago. Found a good quote near the beginning that I will probably add to the Home page or About page of this site eventually:
When science is widely seen as an integral part of what makes us human, our own connection to the cosmos will be significantly strengthened; truly, science is the thread that weaves us all into the fabric of reality.
Yes, it’s official. I have some sort of cold. Been dealing with it for a few days. No, I’m not writing this for sympathy. Don’t feel you have to leave comments wishing me well. “The Geek” is fine. It’s a slight cold and highly tolerable. Just sniffles, a cough, some sneezing, and I’m a little achy. Let’s put this into context.
Before treatment, I bled profusely, passed huge clots, was totally anemic, and spent a lot of time at home. As far as germs, I was really only exposed to my husband. I don’t even remember the last time I had a cold…
Yeah, that’s the other thing that is bothering me. I don’t consider any of you my “friends”. I didn’t originally create my blog to be a “social” place. I just wanted to get the information out (science, latest research, etc.). I’m happy that a number of you find support here but it’s really getting out of hand. I’m not going to tolerate it any longer.
I’m sorry that you have completely missed the purpose of my blog. Perhaps I should spell it out more clearly on the Home page. I’ll go do that right after I post this and something else that is bothering me.
I have polls set up on my “geek with fibroids” web site. If you visit the home page, you’ll find these three questions in the right sidebar:
After voting, you can view the results on the Poll page.
Visit the site, take the online polls, and express your opinions.

Global warming is the observed increase in the average temperature of the Earth’s atmosphere and oceans. It’s been in the news quite a bit and remains a concern because of the projected continuation of rising temperatures. Many believe. Many don’t. Yet another issue causing polarity (like we need another). Read the rest of this entry »
This is the post I’ll use to mention the 9-month anniversary of this blog. I planned on writing some clever “delivering this baby” post but… Nah. Read the rest of this entry »
I want to write about a number of things in my blog. Some funny, some spiritual, some serious, some geeky. That’s why I picked the name EclecticGeek. It’s the perfect way to describe me. Even better than the “New-Age Hippie/Bioscience Nerd” or “half-Vulcan/half-human, Spock-like” labels I often attach to my personality. I really do have odd brain clutter and wish to express it.
In the future, you will see a mixture of posts. Some funny, some spiritual, some serious, some geeky. All I ask is that you realize that I have many sides. Just because I am scientific does not mean I am not spiritual. Still don’t understand why some people feel the two are mutually exclusive. Read the rest of this entry »
