Yeast infections are not considered to be sexually transmitted infections (STI) because a celibate woman can develop them, but having unprotected sex can pass them along.

Hi Hyster Sisters,

When I had my Lap Hysterectomy with cervix removal I was post menopausal and 56 years old.

Do I need Homone Replacement Therapy?

Just got back yesterday from surgery. Doc was shocked when she went in with laproscope on Monday. She expected a 12 week uterus, found a 28 week. My uterus was 850 grams(Normal one is 80) and many fibroids. 2 Very large. All in all she removed over 1600 grams of tumors. She said she didnt know how I was walking around.
My question: I weigh the same as I did on monday before surgery. Is this fluid? We had a problem monday night. Everytime I got up masssive amount of water/blood mixture gushed out of the right side. Doc came in about 2am and put more stitches. I probably lost about a gallon of fluid. Anyone give me some direction?

Hi, I'm a Hyster Sister.

I had my Lap Hysterectomy with cervix removal done Nov. 16. I was diagonsed with CIN Level III.

I am in my 11th day of recovery. I was released from the hospital Nov. 17. The first two days I had pain that somewhat felt like I had to go to the bathroom and urinate.

Day 3 and 4 I felt like I couldn't get enough air to breathe. On day 5 it was determined to be gas and Gas-X fixed the problem.

Day 6 I was feeling good but Day 7, 8, 9, & 10 I had horrific gas pains that kept me up all night. I continued to take the Gas-X with little relief. On Day 10 I had 5 bowel movements.

It is now Day 11 and Thanksgiving Day. I am in no pain. I have a lot to be thankful for.

Things you can try to get rid of your gas:
(1) First thing in the morning, on a empty stomach swallow 1 teaspoon of olive oil.

(2) Chew peppermint gum.

(3) Drink pear juice, this works the same as prune juice. It is found in the Latino aisle in more grocery stores. It is in a can and the maker is Goya.

(4) Drink peppermint tea.

Good Luck sisters and Happy Thanksgiving

Hi Amy
Thanks for the info about the spinal stuff...I think I would prefer to be able to feel my legs and just be knocked out completely - they were still going to knock me out but only lightly... I don't react well to morphine - however, they will have to take the ovaries as one is a major problem and is painful and bleeds for most of the month, causing my stomach to swell... so I will be in menopause when I come round - haven't even begun to think about that bit yet :-|
Am going to try to see the consultant again to get some of my questions answered...
Thanks for your input it is really appreciated

Awaiting Laprascopic fibroid removal. I have 8 (3 inside uterus, 1 9cm, 1 8cm and a couple 5cms). I have a swollen abdomen. My iron has dropped to 19 and stayed there. I had no symptoms until september. I have had these for at least a year that I have known. No bleeding, no pain. just all of a sudden, anemia.
What can I expect post op? Will my stomach go back to regular size? i have gained 10 pounds since july. How much could be the firboids? I do not know how much they weigh. I will be taking care of myself as I have no family. Any suggestions of what to make sure I have at home?

Joanne,

I've had a spinal for my knee surgery and general anaethesia for a ovarian cyst and for my endometrial ablation, and there are positives to each.

I personally like being awake for some things as I'm really curious and like to ask questions... and maybe even like to see what is taken out! I actually had fun with my knee surgery... as I got to see the live video because it was done laparascopically. In fact I probably asked the doc too many questions...

In the case of my cyst, I was supposed to get a spinal, but it didn't work (only numbed up just over my knees - so they just put me under rather than trying again. If they put you under, they have to get you to cough afterwards to make sure your lungs are doing okay (or something like that!) and coughing can make the incision hurt.

When they did my endometrial ablation, I decided I didn't want to deal with feeling them pull and push around in my uterus (the knee feels a little farther from "home"!) so I decided to just go under and next thing I knew, they were waking me up.

Another advantage to the spinal, is you don't get the tube down your throat which can leave you with a sore throat (though in the scheme of things, that's not really a deal breaker!).

Keep in mind, if you aren't totally sure about this procedure, get a second opinion. If your main problem is the bleeding and the cysts aren't causing pain, why not get an endometrial ablation?

Let us know what you decide to to and how it goes. Best.
Hope that helps.

I am sure you will. Good luck and do not worry. The technology is so great. My girlfriend had the same procedure the traditional way and was laid up a long time. She was amazed at my quick recovery. Let me know how you are doing. Do it quick and get it over with. The anticipation is the worst part.

Hi Linda
Thanks for your really quick reply - that is so good to hear that you were up and about so quickly after.. I also go to the gym and have already looked at the low intensity work outs that can be done, so it would be great if I am able to get back to that fairly quick - I certainly hope that I have more energy and vitality after than I currently have.
Thank you so much - your comments have really helped.

Hi Joanne,
I am very active and like you. I had a complete laparscopicrobotic hysterecotomy and felt absoulutely great with minimal bleeding and relatively no pain. While I could not lift weights I returned immediately to the gym and the majority of my activities after a few days. My friends were amazed beacause looked and functioned as though I had not gone through any procedure. You will feel so much better if you have the procedure. All that bleeding is cetainly taking its toll. Good Luck!

Hi
I am so glad I have found this site, as everyone has contributed so much and given me more information than I have been able to get from anywhere else.
I have laparscopic vaginectomy surgery pending on 19th January - I have been desperate to find out more information about how women feel after the event - I am 44, have had no children (choice), and developed excessive bleeding during periods (so bad I was flooding and anaemic, exhausted and miserable) and cystic overies which my consultant is none too happy about - hence needing a full hysterectomy.
My biggest concerns are how will I feel after? as I am very very active run my own business and don't "do" sitting about... I had surgery last year to try to alleviate some of the bleeding and also had a small lump removed from my womb, was sent home the same day and was busy doing cleaning when I managed to make myself haemorraghe, due to not resting.
I am sooo stressed about the surgery, my consultant also wants to do spinal anaesthetic for pain control - definately not keen - and I have little idea of the effects on my body following all of this... how will I feel, am I going to gain weight (big big concern), how soon can I get up and about, should I have the spinal?....
I would really appreciate if there is anyone who can give me their perspective/experience as I have nothing to work with at the moment and am so scared by it all that I am seriously considering cancelling the op.

My biggest concerns are how will I feel after? as I am very very active run my own business and don’t “do” sitting about… I had surgery last year to try to alleviate some of the bleeding and also had a small lump removed from my womb, was sent home the same day and was busy doing cleaning when I managed to make myself haemorraghe, due to not resting.
I am sooo stressed about the surgery, my consultant also wants to do spinal anaesthetic for pain control – definately not keen – and I have little idea of the effects on my body following all of this… how will I feel, am I going to gain weight (big big concern), how soon can I get up and about, should I have the spinal?….
I would really appreciate if there is anyone who can give me their perspective/experience as I have nothing to work with at the moment and am so scared by it all that I am seriously considering cancelling the op.

I agree, I walked a lot for the first week and that helped me more than anything. This is also the best decision I have made in my life. The only problems that I am having is lack of sex drive and hot flashes.

Well, I must say, I've read alot & have some concerns about my upcoming procedure. I'm fortunate to have a supportive husband & family! I, too, have children still at home, 13 & 16, plus two adult children, 24 & 26. I have explained everything to them all & told them honestly about my feelings, my symptoms, etc. It's not easy but they need the facts or the unanswered questions would scare them more than the concerns of the whole picture. I was also wondering about post-op activities from basic things around the house, intimate relationships, exercise, diet...please let me know asap since I go in for pre-op on 11/3, procedure on 11/4. I only wish I'd ran across this site sooner. Would have made my mind not wander so much! Let me know as soon as & thanks in advance!

Thanks Amy!! I've scheduled an appointment for a consultation re UFE after my exploratory surgery. I'm banking on not having cancer!! I have just had my 3rd iron infusion. After the second one, I was more anemic than when I started due to a monster period! I am done with this and really want my life back!!

So, a hysterectomy is not out of the question. My main fear is that I will not be as athletic as I was before. I want to get back to hiking and yoga and dance classes etc!! Also, more importantly, I am a movement teacher. I teach 14 classes a week and while I don't move the whole time, I need to be able to demonstrate the movement. Any dance teachers out there who have had a hysterectomy? Hikers?? runners?? How do you feel?

All the best, Jen
