The original visitor post-op infection question:
fibroid free: Any one have post op infection [after (abdominal) myomectomy or any other procedure]?
Again, it pays to know your body and question anything out of the ordinary. If it dont feel right …it usually isnt…..
I didn’t have any specific post-op infection problems. The pre-op testing before my Hysteroscopic Myomectomy did detect bacteria in my urine. I was given Doxycycline and Levaquin after the surgery. Given Bactrim after my Uterine Fibroid Embolization I assumed because of the whole foley catheter thing. You know I have links:
Urinary Tract Infection
Doxycycline
Levaquin
Bactrim
Foley Catheter
Okay, fibroid free. Where’s that great story?

Your KNOW there is a story behind this question….isnt there always??
Again, it pays to know your body and question anything out of the ordinary. If it dont feel right …it usually isnt…..
Yet another story in my AM recovery……
5 weeks post abdominal myomectomy..was feeling better except I was having this burning pain around my navel and down the left side of my abdomin for the last week …called doc’s office friday and talked to the nurse (they are gems) ….hummm “maybe your ovulating” nope I know that twing…temperature? no.. problem urinating…nope …It this just part of the healing process?……unless you are having doubled over kind of pain – its probably normal….ok… ( I told myself it doesnt feel right). …well see how you feel over the weekend (Doc was in surgery) and go to ER if it gets worse over the weekend and call back Monday. Didnt get better….
Monday morning 9:30am, Doc’s office called me …you ok?? no, still burning…..”mabe your period?” (which started and is still like a Tsunami..can I get a break??) ….. BUT…. doc said takes a few cycles to get back to normal especially since he took out a submuccosal fibroid…sometimes its hard for the uterus to contract while healing and stop the flow….sigh… well …oh I did digress….its not cramps ..burning /stabbing pain on one side only…lower left side…. so go into doc’s office on Tuesday….”dildo cam” (vaginal ultrasound is the proper term LOL) showed nothing…physical exam belly tender…. doc said “I dont know” which I can respect…here are my guesses doc said…”maybe its the knots from the incision…doc said he always knots on the left”…(ewww I pressed down and could feel them) .it dont burn at the incision…or…he then explained how the layers of the Fascia are healing and its a process and can take upto 3 months to heal internally and knit back all the layers and muscle…….zzzzzzzzzz ok ….but I still think something is wrong doc….then I asked….ok so I had a little piece of the suture from my navel that was sticking up for a while (all I could image was a noose hanging out of my belly button LOL – sorry there goes my “humor” again)….assuming it would not dissolve “outside” of the body, I cut it off to skin level (using sterile techniques of course etc)…could bacteria have “wicked” back into the body through that?…..highly unlikely he said…there are layers underneath that are closed also. ok… So I peed in the cup – we will call you in a day or so if there is anything…
today (Wednesday)….ring…ring…Nurse called to tell me I have an infection and to give her my pharmacy’s phone number so she could call in a script…..hummmm – bacteria in the urine…ok well I know that the antibiotic Bactrim is usually used for staph infections and urinary track infections ie bladder infection….ahhh that would explain the burning pain on my lower left side now wouldnt it???? bladder infection……My sister who had a bladder infection (after IVF stuff) said they told her to ..drink at least 1/2 gallon a day of water (script just said drink lots of water – Iooked up in the Physicans Desk Reference (PDR) ok I know I am a geek becuase I have one of these books…. and you need adequate hydration to prevent crystalluria (Cyrstals in the urine) and stone formation and drink cranberry juice while taking the antibiotic…..
Prior to my surgery I had read a couple of post somewhere about cathaters and stents (the urologist put them in temporarily during my surgery to assure the ureters (goes from bladder to kidneys) were not accidentialy cut during surgery) and the risk of infection weeks post op….they had me on massive antibiotics during hospital stay and 1st week I was home.
I was drinking a lot of water (in ancitipation of percocet effects and cranberry juice because who needs a yeast infection from antibiotics….) for the first two week home…then went back to “normal ” water consumption (still 6 -8 ish a day) maybe that is what helped to keep it in check until now….
well hopfuly Week 6 will be better…..
Always pays to ask and check things out. Now what if I had just “let it go” and chaulked it up to ‘the healing process”……

Edited your comment on the Forum page and left a teaser to drive people here.
Sorry your period is still heavy. Should I start humming my fibroid theme? I listened to it while in the MRI scanner and every day while on Lupron just to hear the encouraging words at the end. Hang in there.
I did drink cranberry juice after the myomectomy and some after the UFE. I know I don’t drink nearly enough water. Just not a water person. It’s better now since I switched to decaffeinated green tea. After reading your post, I will definitely work harder to consume more fluids!
It does always pay to check things out. Thanks again for sharing your recovery with us and having such a good sense of humor about it.
September 14, 2006 at 5:47 pm
That was a good idea..the teaser..LOVE IT …its like a movie clip for coming attractions…I saw your “hint” on the Home page…you know I WILL have a story to tell (along with some info mixed into it) I guess to much “Grimms Fairy Tales” reading when I was a kid….
I like the fibroid theme …thanks…I have to remind myself “I just had major surgery and it takes time” This too shall pass….
back to that jug of decaf iced-tea…..now if I only had a “bendy- straw…” to drink it with…gulp
September 14, 2006 at 10:16 pm
When you said movie clip, I had to go back and read the teaser again using a big booming announcer voice in my head. LOL
The U2 song really helped me. I still listen to it from time to time. Sometimes it does come down to getting to the other side of a moment.
Decaf tea. Is that the official fibroid drink?
September 17, 2006 at 6:20 pm
Yes…it is….LOL I do drink a lot of water but during the “pee all the time days” I loathed drinking anything (Heck if I swallowed to much I had to run to the bathroom…) I still tried to stay hydrated – I woudl get to the end of the day and think….did I drink anything today??? no…WOW….I went to diet decaf icetea as a tastly alternative …
Just today I went out to lunch and I was guzzeling down my “antibiotic water” (told to drink at least 1/2 gallon a day of fluids while taking the antibiotic- Bactrim for UTI/bladder infection ) and my sister said…”do you need to go”?? (I paused, reminincant of the old days… and laughed….. She always helped to scout out the nearest bathroom whenever we went anywhere)… NOPE!!! dont have to pee at all….ANOTHER ROUND OF WATER WAITER!!!!
Yup its does get better……
September 19, 2006 at 1:28 pm
I would stop drinking waaaaaay before bedtime just to limit the number of times I had to get up during the night. I’m excited that you can get out and NOT have to worry about “where’s the bathroom?” every 5 minutes. You now have to update your sister’s job title. She’s no longer Bathroom Scout.
It’s all about the small victories!

How soon after myomectomy can I have sex.. Is the 6 week mark ok.
October 5, 2006 at 6:33 pm
Hi Alison,
My doctor recommeded 4 weeks…I think you will be fine at 6 weeks…it depends on how YOU feel though. I waited 7 weeks because I still ‘ached” a bit “inside”
October 6, 2006 at 11:51 pm
I was fine after 3 weeks but go with how you feel…just don’t do any crazy moves and tear at the incision!!!!
October 13, 2006 at 8:21 pm
Sex seems to be a “hot topic”.
I started a thread for discussion:
Sex and fibroids just don’t go together, now do they?

after a abd myomectomy how many follow up appointmemts are the norm with the Dr and how often? Is it common for follow up appointments to be two weeks and then three months? My Dr is far away…just trying to plan…

Hi Kim
My follow up AM appointment with my RE surgeon was one week after surgery and then about 2 months after (Doc wanted to perform a HSG test after my second period). Now I am all clear. Unless I need him for fertltiy/IVF stuff that will be it….

Hi all,
I’m 26 and just had a 14cm fibriod taken out via a abdominal myomectomy 2 weeks ago. It was the second largest my surgent had seen (I was hoping to win first place! oh well) Anyways I had some bleeding for 2 days after surgery then it stoped but only for a day and restarted and has not stopped now for almost a week and a half, its not heavy and my doctor says its normal, but still I am not content with it. Also I too feel burning sensation on my skin around below my belly botton. Did anyone else feel like this? And if so how long did it take for the bleeding to stop, and the burning sensation? Thank you!

Sorry, I have more questions, they come to mind at 5 am. on a Sunday morning….LOL…obviously i am PARANOID about my AM……..Anyone out there in NY go to NYU hospital for AM surgery????? another issue i have, i trust my dr. he is well experienced but never had a stay at this hospital………
My worst fear: not doing my normal everyday routine of running running running…..dont know what to do with myself all day if i cannot move around…..LOL
but i guess this is a small price if i can have a child someday soon………..pushing 40……..wow
January 14, 2007 at 9:51 am
Gabriela -
well first …let me aleviate your concern…you will NOT wake up in pain…you will be hooked up to a pain medicine pump that delivers a constant amount of pain killers via IV into your system during durgery so when you wake up in recovery you feel nothing…..THEN!! on top of that you will be given a self-operated buton to push and get breakthrough pain relieve if you need it. You cant overdose…its a metered amount you can use in a certain amount of time. Then once that is done (usually fist day or night) you go to oral pain killers (evry 4 hours percocet is what I got) I was fine with that…now it hurts…but I tell ya, I had some cramps that were worse than the AM pain. AFter Igot home I used a few pain likers but then naproxen or mortin worked.
TO be honest…the idea of running running running will come to a screetchign halt after surgery…not to scare you but you will not feel like doing ANYTHING!!! I too was in a hosipital I had never been into before but I dont think many of us (unless you had somethign else wrong) have been in hospitals a lot….
The first few days after surgery (while you are in the hospital) are ok…its gets better everyday…I had 6 large fibroids removed (12 cm was the largest)….Yeah a few ladies on the board have had REAL whoppers…a few POUNDER Fibroids….so its tough competition aroudn here LOL .. anywho…
my surgery was 5 hours (I was a extreme case mind you) and 2 hours in recvoery. I got to my room at 7:45 pm) with just 15 minutes left to see…well fuzzy see hubby and mom and sisters) before all I wanted to do was sleep…. woke up a few times during the night pushed the extra pain pump and back to sleep….I got out of the bed the next day about 9 amoclock…when my docotr came to see me I was standing up looking out the window…even HE ws shocked…LOL so the body is reziliant!!! I was glad to be in the hostipal to have someone take care of every whim 24 hours a days for a few days.
Once you get home…you will be very sore (I was never in horrible pain) but you will not feel like doing anythign.. and if you are pushing 40 ( I just turned forty on Jan 12th) then you are sensible enough to make good choices. If you are planning to have children like I am …trying now) then I was VERY VERY VERY carfeful to do EVERYTHING right..no lifting, no overdoing…I know it takes longer to heal at 40 than at 30 so I gave myself liscence to chill. I did nothign..it was hard but when I did overdue it I payed for it…I was NOT trying to have anythign go wrong or do anything wrong that I would blame myself for later while tyring to conceive…..I just started back exercising becuaes I was still achy and didnt want to mess thigns up. Now I feel confident that I did everythignI needed to do to heal ; followed all instructions to keep my odds good to have a baby post surgery.
40 may be the new 30 but it takes more time to heal at 40. ITs been 5 months and I finally feel good but still healing inside. Still have some ahces/tenderness somedays….but that is just part of the healing process.
They tell you 4-6 ok maybe even 8 weeks to heal. Its more lie 3-6 months to fully heal (depending on where ad how may fibroise are removed of couse and your age)
Be smart and make good healthy choices with recovery…it will be worth it in the end. I hope to get pregnant and be able to share my sucess story with soem of the ladies here. I had no choice except AM. The Fibroids were making me infertily….
It will be the best thing you ever did for yoursefl
Life is great since the fibroids are gone… now I cam Firborids Free and tryign to conceive LOL
January 14, 2007 at 10:54 am
Fibroid Free: THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I am surrounded by great family and friends who tell me all day……dont worry, dont worry……….you will be fine, but it is so different and much more potent coming from someone who went thru what i will be in 2 weeks. It seems ridiculous that at almost 40 i am so scared of surgery……..I am forever greatful for the amount of information i have gotten from other women on this site and especially you………..for answering my 5 am. mania!!!! Be well, and wherever you are…….who knows maybe we will be pregnant together next year……………

Hi,
I too am terrified of having an AM. My gyn said that I had no other choice but to have a Abd. Myomectomy. My fibroid is growing fast, and it’s now 14cm. I’m a pretty tiny so a 14 cm fibroid had to go or else it would do damage to my other organs.
I want to schedule my surgery as soon as possible. I am 33 years old and found out at the beginning of the year that I had a fibroid in my uterus. I had heavy bleeding but so far the heavy periods last 1 day and half and then it’s quite light and normal.
My main concern is blood loss during surgery.. did anybody require a blood transfusion during the surgery? I would appreciate it if anyone could get back to regarding this as I dont’ think I am able to bank my own blood so my only choice is to get a transfusion if the unfortunate were to happen and I was losing blood during surgery.
Thank you!

hi there, ladies, just wanted to chime in here:
>: one of the threads around here talks about a bunch of us in the NY area going under v.soon (next week thru next few months). How did your procedure go?? I hope you’re doing well. (Also: I’m still doctor-picking in NYC & wondered who your dr. at NYU was..)
…But let us know how you’re doing!
>: i’ve read about something called a “cell saver” which one site describes as a device that “retrieves any blood lost during the surgery and immediately retransfuses it to the patient with no additives. These measures virtually elminate the need for blood transfusions.” Maybe you can ask the doctors you see about it? I know in the NYC area its in use, if needed, at a number of hospitals…. Good luck…

Just wanted to share my experience. I am 34 yrs old and had and AM in Jan. My experience was somewhat different from alot here because maybe I have a low threshold for pain. After surgery, I woke up in pretty severe pain (even though I asked to be pumped full of drugs way before I wake up, so I don’t feel anything). After about 10 mins of this and the pain medication started to kick in, I was fine….the next day the nurse tried to get me out of bed and I was wasn’t in alot of pain but it was painful enough for me not to want to do it more than once for that day. The worst part of it was the nausea I felt the day after surgery from the drip medication. It actually made me sick and it was the worst feeling in the world having to throw up while you just had abdominal surgery. Also, the painful stomache aches with gas problems up to 2 weeks after surgery. Maybe I was one of the unlucky ones, but my experience certainly wasn’t as painless as some described it up above. Right now its about 9 weeks after surgery and I still feel some numbness. I started to exercise about 2 weeks ago and that’s going fine….very minimum discomfort at the beginning. I don’t regret doing it but I just wish I had a more pleasant experience.

Thanks for the advice!

I had much less-invasive procedures but still experienced nausea from the hospital medications. I’m really sensitive to drugs and vomitted after my UFE. Sorry you had to go through that but it’s good that you don’t regret the surgery. I feel exactly the same way about my treatments.
Best wishes!

As far as doctors in the NYC area, the secretary at my doctor’s office had her abdominal myo performed with Dr. Millicent Comrie from Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn, NY. She’s actually the same doctor doing the surgery on or-live.com. The secretary said the doctor is awesome and will do everything to preserve your uterus. She was in surgery for 5 hours and had some serious issues due to the fibroids. The uterus was actually pushing up the other organs in her body. Well of course I asked her why she didnt have my doctor perform the surgery and she said it was a conflict of interest being that she worked for him. Both doctors actually spoke about her surgery and she has been fibroid free for one year now. Hopefully this helps for anyone looking for doctors in the NYC area.

Hi. I had my AM 6 weeks ago. Had 2 large fibroids growing outside of the uterus into my spinal column and into my stomach. The pain after surgery was HORRIBLE! Not trying to scare anyone, but I was on Morphine drip for 24 hours and I hit the button every chance I could. I have never been in so much pain. I couldn’t breath because the pain was so bad. I was on a breathing machine. I couldn’t move for 2 days which is not good! I ended up with a 300ml blood hemotoma which had to be drained. Crazy as it sounds, I started working out 2 weeks ago, eventhough I am in pain. I hope I havent messed up my body for doing something stupid like walking and lifting 10 lb weights. I am 38 yrs old and want children too. Reading the comments on this site has made me realize that I need to take better care of my body and stop working out. I am a runner too and I have already tried to start running, which is a mistake, it hurts too much. I thought something was wrong with me, but after reading other comments, I see this is normal and I need to just chill out on the running. Thanks for the comments and I wish everyone the best with the surgery.

I am at week 3 1/2 and I am still in lots of pain and very tired. I feel like I am never going to be normal. Had AM and a wound infection. Will it get better? Does anyone have the same experience. I am a photojournalist with the Army, my unit leaves in two weeks and I feel like I am not going to be ready for IRAQ. Ofcourse, a Journalist’s dream.

Anyone have experience with a very itchy abdomen with a bumpy rash which resembles razor burn? I am on day 8 post-op myomectomy. They found 13 fibroids – size range 8 inches to a golf ball. Not too much pain – percocet makes me ill – so I’ve been on dilaudid off and on. Only a 3 pills yesterday and only 1 today. Anyway…I think I am going crazy – the itching started last night in my sleep – woke me -up. I was okay most of today but then when I took a small nap after runnign some errands with my mom – the itchign resumed with a venegance. Doctor didn’t seem too concerned by it today – but I can’t take it!!!! Anyone else run into this nonsense…don’t think it’s the healign process since I have a rash too. Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

I had my myomectomy 6 weeks ago with Dr. Slowey NJ and I’m much better now. He’s EXCELLENT! Thank goodness for this site because I knew what to expect. The Only bad pain I experienced was right after the operation. Thank goodness for morphine and drugs. I had 7 fibriods and one of them was on a stalk and was 10lbs. The big one was affecting my kidneys. By week 3 I yelled “I’m tired of feeling this way”; having never had any medical problems or treatments before. I wasn’t in terrible pain at all (even when I developed the small hemotoma that burst a week later; I did too much and didn’t rest). I was happy to have the operation but was sick and tired of the time it takes to heal. I’m very independent and needed help around the house. I still get tired and I started working out 3 weeks ago to get back in shape and to get my stamina back. I still have some swelling and have what feels like hardening right under the skin. Does anyone know what that is or what to do to help it? I haven’t experience any other problems. What works and seems to help:
Get gas x, drink plenty of cranberry juice and water, eat light, Rest. If possible don’t do anything for at least two and a half weeks except to walk around a little. Take vitamin C, Iron and Fish oil. Drink bancha / green tea. Heating pads/ice packs are excellent. Get great pillows. I got a great body pillow and a pillow to lean on since I couldn’t sleep on my stomach for 5 weeks. Getting waxed a week before hand was a big help; no itching. My scar is perfect. Woltra Cocoa butter and BioOil really seem to help the outside scar. Everyone heals differently but any advice reg inside scar harding/swelling will be helpful.

hi there
this is my first posting here, although i have been reading it a lot over the last few months! i am at the end of 3 weeks post myom, and it’s been a nightmare. I felt unwell when i left hospital – pain, sickness etc – and my wound part-opened with smelly gunge coming out. My GP put me on anti-biotics and I was seeing the nurse every day, and then last week I questioned the hardness on my tummy, near the wound area. It was apparently “fine”. turned out to be an abscess which burst very dramatically – I was covered in puss which gushed out through the gap in my wound – and I spent two night in hospital. it’s almost a month and i really don’t feel close enough to being as well as I had hoped by now. has anyone else has such a horrible infection?
February 16, 2008 at 11:45 am
wow Lulu! I’ve been reading this for a while and don’t remember anything quite like what you’ve described with a myom! Although I have read about infections and complications with some of the other procedures… but you have to hunt through some of the other threads. Hope you feel better soon.

Hi, just wondering if anyone has exerienced a hard swelling. I had an abdominal myomectomy, and all the soft swelling has gone away, that’s great, but left me with this extremely hard swelling underneath. Like what is this? I’ve been researching this phenomenon all over the internet for 4 days now, and can’t find one other person with this post-op problem. And when I say it’s hard swelling, it’s HARD, like you can actually *Knock* on it like wood, hahaha. Geeze, the skin is so tight over it now, It makes it painful to walk cause the skin has to stretch over this swelling. Anyway thanks for taking the time to read this.

Hello Ladies,
I am in my sixth week of recovery. This week I have been having pain on my right side –in the area where my fibroid was removed. The pain arises when I am standing. I have been pain free for about two weeks rarley taking motirn. My Doc prescribed a cream for my incision to prevent scaring. The next day the pain started and my incison has been more irritated than normal. After calling I was told that I may be ovulating and that the pain sounds normal. I am going to call on Monday but wondered if others have had similar issues so I can ask good questions! This doesn’t feel normal. This is my second AM and I don’t remember this from my first experience.
June 29, 2008 at 10:33 am
Maria, trust your gut — especially as this is your second surgery and your’re six weeks in! If your incision is irritated, perhaps you’re allergic to something in the cream — so why not stop putting it on until you speak to your doctor…then you’ll see if it calms down. Since you’re concerned about infection, be sure to monitor your temperature. Best to you.
July 25, 2008 at 2:26 pm
Maria, how did you incision heal? I too had irritate incision areas 4 weeks after my AM, mostly itchy and warm. I put cortizone cream on it, but it helped some, but eventually just stopped. I think I may have had an allergic reaction to the sutures they used because once they removed a few that were sticking out that didn’t disolve it felt better. I took several months for them to fully disolve (the few knots i found later on the outside). The doctor told me I must have very sensitive skin. Not really, just all that foreign stuff from the surgery I guess. Now I just use scar gel on them and they are smaller and less red.

Wow, my first thought is…HOW do you guys even type on your laptops or sit at your computer this is so uncomfortable. I am 12 days post abdominal myomectomy (sorry I don’t know the acronyms so spelling everything out)…and geez, I was so unprepared for this. Mind you, my doctor did warn me of long recovery time and pain but he seemed to fail to talk about all the symptoms. And thank you everyone for posting here as this is my first surfing in the dark at midnight to see why I am having the most bizarre symptoms. I can read through these posts and go check, check, yep, check, yep and then I even have some to add! I’ll be seeing my doctor post op at 2 week mark and man the list of questions is long! Here goes with the recovery list as I had about 6 fibroids removed and some were internal and some were submucosal and several measured about 7 cm. Doc said he also found a touch of endometriosis on uterus and one ovary that he cauterized and just a tiny amount as he put it. Was under general anesthesia for fist time and have a smiley face scar at top of hair line that seems to reach from leg to leg although doc said it was slightly shorter than one he would need to make to pull a baby out! Symtomps in hospital for 2 days:
1. Stomach turned into basketball. Seriously. So hard. So large. So bloated from under rib cage all the way down. They said from gas and narcotics caused the gas and general anesthesia shutting your sytems down and about 8 hours for things to start back up again. They give you stool softener pills which actually helped. The goal is to burp and fart and have a bowel movement if you’re super girl!
2. Barely walking upright but could walk about 12 hours post surgery. Would take my IV for a walk. I had a catheter. Very odd but handy to not have to get up to go to bathroom! I took 4 walks the day after surgery. I got no sleep as nurses keep waking you. Very sore stomach from the bloat. Walking seemed to help.
3. When time to try to get catheter out and go to bathroom myself it was moderate pain but tolerable. Think bad urinary tract infection feelings very low. Gas pains made it hard to bend forward and bend over and it would take me a while to relax all my muscles to just ‘go’.
4. My stomach continued to be a basketball for days even eliminated gas and having bowel movements etc. This caused the most pain in the beginning.
Home Recovery symptoms:
1. Zingers. They shoot down and through my middle, lower mid section, vaginal area, partial inner thigh.
2. Cramping sensations. I think pinching feelings very low middle and on the sides. It’s like involuntary kegals.
3. Quivering. Yes, I could feel blood pulsing or nerves or who knows what causing pulses and quivering sensations. Now mind you, a few years back I had a full ruptured lumbar disc and I thought I knew every type of nerve quiver there was going down my leg, but this is oddball. Sometimes down the inner thigh.
4. Bloat. Did I say bloat? Bloat. Then after several days it turned into warbly bloat. Bigger in spots than others. I could look down and see my stomch stuck in undulating wavelike patterns that changed over time. A few days parts actually sucked inward while others pouched out.
5. Piercing pains. I’m walking along, minding my own business and pow, right in the lower kisser. For me mostly on the right lower part of my belly but also right smack in the lower mid section vaginal area. I’d get ’stuck’ in place and not be able to move for a moment. Occasionaly days 7=today I would be so stuck as to not be able to put weight on my right side as it made it worse so I’d holler to hubby to come and jack me up under one arm and help me to the couch. This oddly happened more frequently after urinating and sometimes after bowel movement which you would think would be the other way around!
6. Incision pain. This was the only symptom I did expect and doctor said I would feel. It’s the more normal one and makes the most sense so your mind has an easy time with this. Drugs seem to help this one more than they help with my other symptoms. And yes, of course I’m sensitive to any medication in my stomach so that makes matters worse.
7. Early on nausea from meds. Also nausea if I had not eaten in a while. Then the opposite feeling way too full after having very little, like water.
8. Peeing…a LOT. I normally pee a lot. But for first 10 days had to get up in middle of night to go quite often.
9. Feels like urinary pain in bladder sometimes while peeing and sometimes after and sometimes fine. Sometimes feel it burning right through urethra and sometimes not. Better over time. Sometimes feel this burning even when not peeing. Comes and goes.
10. Sensitive to touch. Any pressure on my belly anywhere and I will kill you. Most underwear is even too much pressure or sensation. Even blankets on top of me feels a bit ouchy. Love the heating pad! Thanks hubby for suggestion!
11. Stomach grumbles. I’m on day 12 and I can hear it as I type. Itls often active after any kind of food and often without food. I can feel exactly where gas is and where it moves to and it’s bizarre. It reminds me of college and the nights I shot-gunned beer. Oh, and you know how you want to hold everything in while you’re on a long plane trip and then then you get all bloaty and crampy for a few hours post trip…well it’s like that times 10. I’m even like this on the days I’ve not taken any medicine.
12. Tight tissue and muscles. Did I say tight? I meant to type brick-like. Worst is right around the belly button. I swear my doc must have taken mine off during surgery and reattached it and put it on too tight. Like it doesn’t fit anymore and is a few sizes too small and it’s getting stretched. And if you’ve every done hard core weight training and actually ripped apart the muscle tissue for it to rebuild and after breaking apart it is the same feeling. Except minus the work out of course. Ugh. I’m stretching and it gets better each day but it’s so odd to have it go right back to brick status after a stretch. And it does pull and hurt to stretch. But also feels relief in surrounding areas as everything gets tight as a result immobility and bed rest, etc. I can stretch a bit a have since day one post surgery. But it also can give me worse symptoms for a while about an hour later so hard to balance how much to do or not to do.
13. So all my happy C section mommy friends said they could easily carry their baby post surgery and I thought hey, that’s a good gallon of milk. But oh no, there is no carrying a gallon of milk, not even the half gallon. It just seems to activate the muscles right down low in the middle and not a good sensation. Ouch. But get this, I can totally imagine carrying a baby on my hip. Side holding and carrying is much better so I literally take my smallest watering can for the flowers and fill it, pull it to the side under one arm like a football and walk with it that way watering the plants. Whew.
14. Vertical time fatigue. Or this is at least what I call it. Minimal hang time. Sitting hurts and lying down is good. Standing does not hurt a ton but gets very sore quickly and as the tightening builds and soreness builds with being vertical and walking you eventually want to lye back down for relief. I’m about 20 to 60 minutes max vertical time right now on day 12. Varies. After days where I push it more, the next day I am shorter on duration. Ugh.
I hope this helps and man I wish I read this site before my surgery! I am 41 and was fit before surgery and even doing extra ab work and push ups before surgery. I’ve only had out patient laproscopic types of surgery before this and this one takes the cake by far.
Good luck everyone, take it slow and man, patience is a virtue.

Wow Skye! I just found your account and what an account it is! Too bad you didn’t post it on the myomectomy thread.. a lot more people read that. I haven’t had a myomectomy, although I did have an ovarian cyst removed 30 yrs ago… and it sure seems like you have had a rougher time of it. Hope you’re better by now. How about an update? If I ever get permission from WordPress to monitor this blog (it’s been abandoned) I’ll move it or place a copy of this on the myomectomy thread – where it will do more good. Until then, maybe you’d want to post there…. thanks again for posting.

hey ladies, thanks so much for sharing your stories..this is actually my first time responding on one of these sites! so here goes!
Day 9 post Laproscopic myomectomy, and I am going stir crazy not being able to be active. I still have a bit of pain in my abdomen and my back muscles are definitely on strike! They ache and hurt as they hold up my body with the lack of abdominal strength. ouch…. I am a runner, so I’m having a hard time with not being able to lift anything heavy or be active at all. I’m glad I read other people postings about healing time and taking it easy.
I also wanted to ask if anyone had experienced a yeast infection after the surgery? I wasn’t on antibiotics, but I seems to have this raging infections going on. Its so not fun. Does anyone know if it’s ok to take yeast infection medicine after the operation???
Other things to report, still 9 days after surgery, little pain in the urethra when I pee and also pain if I laugh too hard, sneeze or cough.
Happy and speedy healing ladies, glad to see this thread online.
